The power of pothos
When I moved into my latest office space, I brought a potted vine from my house. I’m pretty sure it’s some type of pothos. My sister gave me a cutting from hers years ago, and then it grew in my kitchen window. As it got longer and longer, I looped it around my window several times. When I brought it into the office, I used push pins to hang the long vine up and over my computer monitors. It even dangled a bit over my neighbor’s cube.
The benefit of having this pothos is it became a conversation piece for visitors to our bullpen. It was something easy and safe to break the ice about. “Oh, that’s real?” they’d ask, and then I’d proudly get to tell them about it. My cube and plant also became a popular back drop for photos taken in the office. The vine framed smiling faces well.
The plant also became a great gift. I use empty Starbuck’s cups for propagating. Little cuttings of the plant grow roots in just a couple of weeks. Now, when someone comments on the hanging plant, I offer them on of their own.
Get a pothos for your cubicle. Or another house plant that propagates easily. Use this trick to seed (pun intended) your popularity around the office and, in the process, bring greenness and life to gray cubicle spaces.
